Paul Thomas Kuyt was born in 1965 in Amsterdam.
From a young age painting was his great hobby.
His favorite topic was all under water alive.
He got his ideas when snorkeling or diving, mainly in Hawaii.
Beneath warm tropical waters, the mosaic of reef has attracted an intricate world of plants and animals.
The ocean was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Paul.
He dives into his painting, pouring forth these energies into his canvas. Working meticulously, fully absorbed, for many hours he does not notice the passing of time.
The oceans are a precious possession and with his artworks Paul wanted people to made more aware of the responsibility to nature.
Think of the terrible whaling, the dangers of indiscriminate fishing practices. Seaturtles which are nearly extinct.
For the great ocean mammals, for dolphins, for all marine existence, time appears to be running out.
Although the above and below paintings based on fantasy, the whales, dolphins, moorish idols, parrot fish and the colorful coral reefs are very detailed on the canvas.
Scales, fins and smal watercoral jumps as it were, of the cloth.
The most importend as an artist he found to have a goed feeling about the subjekts he painted.
Paul died in 2007 from cancer.
Technique:
Paul first made sketches on paper, than he starts with the first layer, acrylic paint, because it dries quickly.
The second layer, oilpaint on waterbase. This paint dries in a week.
The last layer he made with ordinary oilpaint, what sometimes needed months to dry.
The glacing from oilcolour was his favorite technique.
A small layer of transparant paint goes over the original paint. This gives the artwork extra dimension
